Chris and new youngest Co-Host Phil talk about the fact that how family and friends react and help deal with a loved one's diagnosis dramatically affects how well or not so well that person does in life. Literally, the literature suggests the prognosis (how problematic the disorder will be) of a disorder can be much better if family and friends don't band together to take on a mood disorder head on. It turns out that we really are all in it together.

Statement on Unmet Needs in Diagnosis and Treatment of Mood Disorders in Children

The 36-member Consensus Development Panel consisted of experts in child/adolescent or adult psychiatry and psychology, pediatrics, and mental health advocacy. The panel met to focus attention on the unmet needs of children and adolescents with mood disorders and to make recommendations for future research and allocation of healthcare resources. 

Duration Between Onset and Time of Obtaining Initial Treatment Among People with Anxiety and Mood Disorders

This paper reports that early-onset mental health problems are not being addressed early enough, leading to decreased success in treatment of the primary disorder.
