taking the good with the bad
I do not even know where to start so I guss I will start in July when the major issures started and then move to the present. Our son was diagonosed with Gad for years he has seen therpists, counclers, physlogists, physcrists, neurlogists since the age of 4 .As a sophmore in high schol we felt he was doing ok and stopped seeing people and drs frankly we had all had enough,an incident happend in school while he was out of town and some boys decided to play a prank and put a condom over my sons face while he was asleep. I spoke with the principal and he spoke with the boys and things were talked out no one was suspended or anything elese ,a few weeks later I get a call from school stating i needed to come in my son was being suspended. Go to school get the story say ok he did do this I see the proff when can he come back was told Tuesday and it was Friday. Monday evening I get another call from school saying something elese came up please just you come in. the staff tellls me that my son had a hit list and they do not want in back in the building untl he is reevulated I say ok but I want a tutor but first and formost I would like proff of this because here they are saying one thing and my son is saying another, police got involved there was no proff. Son still can not go back to school,i keep asking for a tutor school keeps telling me no. I call get him back into councling school still says he can not come back so every day from May till June I would walk to school get his work and bring it back sometimes I was at the school 3 times a day. My son was on the honor roll and neither he or I wanted to see him have to repeat his sophmore year so I made arragments with the principl for him to be able to take his exams. My son passed every exam and was still on the honor roll.
He has a mild case of tourettes and was diagonised with bipolor not to long ago in which he is taking 5 mg of ablify daily,dr says this will help all three conditions. At first he said he would not take the meds or any meds but he has been faithfully taking them. He is not living with us right now because our landlord says they are afraid of him and what he could possible do unfortuntally our landlord is also his grandparents . J seems to be fine for the most part unless provaked and such and unfortuntally his grandparnts have a tendecy to make him upset so for now he is not here. I do see him daily unfortuntally with school and dad working afternoon shift he rarely sees him.
Now for the good part we decided to switch J to a new school so he could have a fresh start and after one day and seeing how many credits he had the school decided that it would be best to promate him to a senoir there reasoning is that a child as smart as he is and with the diagonsises that he has they do not want him getting bored.J is very happy, mom and dad are proud and we know he can do it,now for the hard part working on his anger towards his grandparents so we can get the family put back together.
Thanks for listening to me and thanks for any advice in advance

Lisa,
It's wonderful to hear about someone finding a great school for their child. Do you think he is stabilizing on the Abilify? Is there a chance he could come home now? It sounds as if the g'parents don't quite understand the nature of his illness and how it affects his behavior. I think a lot, if not most, parents have bad interactions with their BP children until they figure out better ways to parent them. It can be really hard for g'parents, who raised kids already, to change their parenting style for a non-neurotypical grandchild. The 3 of them will probably need some sort of therapy to help them work through these anger issues and power struggles.
Since your ds is now a senior, what kind of plans do you have for him when he graduates next year? Is he ready to leave home and go to college or get a job?

James has all plans to attend college he will be applying as soon as he gets his sat scores which will be sometime in December. We would like for him to stay in state but he is looking at all options which we are fine with and that is what he should be doing.
As for the grandparents it saddens me that I can not even remember the last time they asked me how there grandson was. They want to know all or nothing and I do not feel they need to know all yes he is there grandson but he is my son and as long as I know what is going on it is good. I feel aweful for both my son and his grandparnts for what has been going on and I wish I could fix it. It does not look like he will be moving back anytime soon. Both myself and his younger brother are now in councling.
It is hard to tell if it is the medicine that is helping Jim or the fact that he is away from the stressors.

It is probably a combination of both. I hope the counseling goes well for you and your other son. That is great that your ds is making college plans for himself! Sometimes I think relationships between parents and children improve when there is a little distance. And once he fully matures, things may be different again. Hopefully someday he will be able to appreciate all that you are doing for him.
