Ray of sunshine!
My son, L, has the alphabet soup dx. He is violent, suffers from psychosis and rages multiple times a day. We have fought for the best care for him for three years. Unfortunately, he is not able to live in our home now as he is too much of a threat to the other children.
We see him a few times a month at the therapeutic setting where he lives (in a different city) and have phone calls twice a week. Calls are short and often end abruptly when L stops mid sentence, says “I’m done” and simply walks away from the phone.
But then there was THE phone call. We chatted for fifteen minutes about goofy stuff at school. He even played a joke on me that was actually funny!!
And then he said it. “I love you, mom.”
I hadn’t heard those words from his mouth for nearly eight months. And he came up with it all on his own.
That’s my single ray of sunshine, the ray I cling to in this dark battle. I know that my boy is still IN there and that he is well worth fighting for to help him climb out of his storm.
