10 YO FABRICATING THE TRUTH
Posted by fairy on July 17, 2011 at 11:23pm
i have been watching my 10 yo girl for about a year now and i had my suspions that she had bipolar or a mood disorder at least. bipolar runs in both sides of her family and i am curently medicated for mine.
i was wondering if anyone else here has had a problem with their bipolar kids making up stories. stories to the point to where someone could get into big trouble over what she has said. and if so how did you deal with it.
I think this is fairly common. Do you know why she makes up the stories? Sometimes their perception of reality is so distorted that they invent a story that matches their view. If you suspect BP or any other mental illness, I strongly recommend getting a neuro-psych eval for her, and seeking treatment as needed.

Yes, my daughter fabricated many stories, and continues to do so. And yes, to the point where I say to her, I am going to confront the person you talking about, and she changes her tune then. Although, that is my approach, and I believe she knows this, and she continues to make up stories. If you have any advice on how to handle these lies, please let me know.
Thank you,

Yes my 7 year old daughter does this all the time, she likes to get people to fight. During school she made a close friend and would play at her house on the weekends. When my wife picked her up on evening she told my wife that her friends mom hates her and told her she could never come back. Of course the mom was shocked to hear this and had no idea what she talking about.
She came home from school one day and told us about how the teacher and other kids all told her they hate her and want her to fail at everything she does. My wife knows the teacher so of course we knew this was not true at all.
It certainly appears that to her these things really happen and she believes that she is telling the truth.
She is taking rispiridone and it has certainly helped with her perception of reality.
