therapist suggestions for Monmouth or Ocean County NJ
Hello
My 15 year old son was recently diagnosed bipolar by his psychiatrist. The past three years have been hell as we stumbled through a series of pediatric psychiatrists, short and long term crisis hospitalizations, and one 4 week residential. The rage episodes starting appearing at a rapid fire rate over the past year and are the most difficult of the synptoms to deal with. My son is out of school again on home instruction awaiting a Child Study Team eval. He had always been an A student and the need for this arose when the rages started occuring in the school setting and affecting his ability to reamain in school for any more than 3 days at a time before I would get "the call" and have to rush against time to get him before police were called.I didn't always make it. He has never been able to connect with a therapist and the mere mention of a prior episode or incident causes him to either shut down or escalate. Now that I believe we are on the right track with a diagnosis I am seeking any information on therapists in my area who have a familiarity with childhood onset bipolar to work with my son. Does anyone know of any such therapists in the Monmouth or Ocean County areas of New Jersey?
I'm in the same boat, in the same county. But I recently got a service called monmouthcares. I had to call crisis at one point then they became involved but they are willing to help my son find someone he's okay with. The first therapist they sent was the first therapist he ever saw at around 7. Who I believe scarred him by freaking out when he said she had a big butt. He was 7 and joking with her. But now he reticent to trust someone, but monmouthcares is trying to find him a MALE, hopefully somewhat young therapist. Which I really think will help. He's always had to deal with women which doesn't work out good. Anyway my point is try to get monmouthcares or try CPC or catholic charities. The clinics around here such as Pollack at monmouth medical are ran by almost all women, which for a young man must be hard to relate. And Meridan or Jersey Shore only does EITHER meds OR therapy not both. Which makes no sense to me. Good luck and feel free to contact me- I'd love to talk to someone nearby.
