Seroquel and anger
My son was put on 25mg of seroquel 7 days ago. He had facial tics from his last med, abilify and this is supposed to help decrease these tics. At first his facial tics increased with this med but now it seems that they are lessening. One thing that I noticed was that about two hours after he takes the medication he becomes very irritable and angry. The last two evenings the anger seems more intense. However he is sleeping well and pretty agreeable during the day. Has anyone had experience with this?

It could be that he is just very sleepy from the Seroquel. At low doses it is very sedating, so maybe he needs to take it no more than an hour before going to bed. What time is he currently taking it?

Okay, the dr has now increased his dose of seroquel. My son is extremely hyper, aggitated, irritating, irrational, anger, intense anger, rude....I could go on and on....after taking this medication. It lasts for hours until he FINALLY falls asleep. I tried giving it to him at bedtime(7:30) instead of 5pm as I had been and it only prolongs this craziness. I really miss how Abilify worked for him. I can't even take this anymore. The whole house has turned upside down again.

I think you need to call the pdoc and firmly state that this is just not working. Has pdoc considered using MS's?

My daughter had the same reaction to Seroquel--it was just not the right med for her at all. I am not sure if it was just not doing anything to control her anger, or if actually made her worse. But at any rate, of all the antipsychotics she was the absolute worst on it. With different combos of meds we sometimes don't know what life will be like day to day, on others we don't know hour to hour. With Seroquel we didn't know what would happen second to second; she was that unstable on it. We had to have her admitted.
I am sure Seroquel is a great med for many people, but it is amazing how different individuals respond in different ways to the same med.

Hi Crystal,
My dd is on Serequel 150 mg. We have been through Many Ap's bc of her gaining so uch weight. I would definitely call the pdoc about this. But I will say that Abilify worked so well with my dd but she gained too much weight. When she was coming off of it we almost had to have her admitted to the phos. She had so much aggitation and raging for hours. The pdoc had switched her straight from abilify to serequel. The pdoc also started her on lamictal at that time. Her mood got better with in about 2 weeks from the switch. Her pdoc added thorazine when she was in extreme rage for us to give to her to get her through this really hard time for her. Again, I would call the pdoc on it. I wish you all the luck in the world. Hang in there. I am sure most of us here have been through Many med switches to get the right combo. So hard.
