Grandson in Hospital/Clonodine - moved from Anxiety Meds by Kathy
September 6, 2010 by csamaniego
I think I finally figured out how to post (Whew) Grandson hospitalized for EXTREME anger at an excellent hospital in CA but Chief of psychiatry does not believe in childhood BP. The only thing they have added to his rages is Clonodine. He has been in hospital since Friday night and have had to give him 3 injections of Benadryl too. Will Clonodine help???
Ceci 58 (self) BP Depakote 1500 mg Topamax 100 mg
Payson 7 G-son BP, OCD Risperdal 0.5 (2X day) Trileptal 150 mg (2 x day)..Previously tried Prozac and Abilify and made him go through the roof. Current combo seems to be controlling (if possible) rages. Instead of 4 hours, down to 1 to 2 hours.
All Clonidine did was knock Elijah out. The Clonidine has a calming affect in many children. Elijah seemed like a zombie but it really did nothing else besides that. When he was awake he was still aggressive. His body could not tollerate it during the daytime. Risperdal is still on the lower end and could possibly be raised. Wishing you luck!--

Just make sure they are monitoring his blood pressure, as Clinidine is an anti-hypertensive med. So is Tenex. My ds16 did not tolerate either of them-- dropped his blood pressure too low and made him dizzy and sluggish.

Risperdal is one of the only meds that ever helped my daugher, and at one point she was on 4 mg. twice daily - 8 total. And this as a child!
And benadryl always makes my daughter worse. Antihistamines activate her.
Good luck.
