ds has been pretending to take his meds
what can you do when your child is not med compliant? ds is 17 and recently started back on risperdal for extreme aggression. tonight i found out he has been spitting the pills back out. i am just sick about this. risperdal has been our only med that helps him and now he wont agree to take it. what are we to do with him? dh is so angry he doesnt want him back in house if he wont comply. i feel so disappointed and sad...i actually had hope again with restart of med. when will this rollercoaster stop????

Discuss what he doesn't like about the medications, and empathize with him. See if there is something he might agree to.
Long-acting shots. See http://www.medicinenet.com/risperidone-injection/article.htm
Read "I'm Not Sick, I Don't Need Help" by Xavier Amador.
Does he know there is something wrong even if what he thinks is wrong is just with his sleep, or anxiety? If so, consider him participating in treatment for THAT, and consider EMPowerPlus or treatment with an Integrative physician.
Cognitive or dialectical behavior therapies (CBT/DBT).

It's Not Mental
Older dd: formerly(?) teen-onset bipolar (morphed into ultradian cycling): "Recovered" after over 13 years - stable off psych meds almost two years. Now fine on just diet changes and higher thyroid levels (after healing - addressing gut issues/Candidal overgrowth while using EMPowerPlus and other supplements). She added a little EMpowerPlus back on as a multivitamin simply because she feels better on it - gets sick less often.
Younger dd: formerly(?) Childhood-onset schizoaffective, TS, OCD, anxiety, PTSD, migraines. After over 15 years, is now "recovered" for almost 5 years after treating endocrine issues, food sensitivities, gut issues, sleep issues, nutritional/mitochondrial needs.
