How do I find a Therapeutic School?
Posted by carolynad on November 19, 2010 at 11:46am
My son is not doing so well in school. He had been in a BOCES program last year, but that is more for kids with delinquenet issues, My son has an illness I don't think he should be there. How do I find out about a Therapeutic School? The school district I'm sure won't give me that information. How do you research that. I live in Stony Point, NY. Rockland County, NY.

Son 13- Mood Disorder NOS, ADHD
Meds - Abilify 10 mg a.m., Seroquel 100 mg p.m.
Hi, I am in NY also - Westchester county. Go to the NY special education website (NYSED), therapeutic schools are listed there. Your disctrict should give you the info if you request from the CSE in writing, they must have sent him to the Boces program, so they must know that he might need an alternative placement.
There is a residential therapeutic school in Nyack - the Summit School. I looked at it for my son.

If you want the school district to pay for the school, then you have to work through them. There are listings through the state Dept of Education often of approved schools. If you are not necessarily interested in having the public schools pay, you can find more information here:
