Zyprexa - What to take while Weaning off

My son has become prediabetic and he is now being weaned off of zyprexa, not to be replaced by another med. He is down to 2.5 mg now. What can I give him during the withdrawal?  Fox anxiety, sleep problems, etc. What aminos can be given? where do I get them?  The school won't give him anything so I will have to give him before school or in evening.

For us it's take it slow, although we go slower than others.  2 weeks to 2 months between each time you lower it.  Quicker if the meds are causing trouble.  Slower if the withdrawals cause troubles.  If we have problems, then, we add back 1/2 the last dose for about a week, then go the whole amount down.

Here is a website that Mmsum pointed us towards.  http://www.theroadback.org/default.aspx

If you haven't already, you might think of diet and supplements.   We are finally at a point of minimal meds and a very happy girl who is stable for 23 hours and 55 minutes per day every day.  Everybody in the family takes lots of supplements and eats a diet that would make most moms and children cringe.  Basically no grains of any type, no dairy, no food coloring, no food preservatives, no sugar, nothing that can't be read on the label, and no "natural flavorings".

Brian already gave you excellent advice. Here are some links to some past discussions on this topic which may be of interest.

It's Not Mental
Older dd: formerly(?) teen-onset bipolar (morphed into ultradian cycling): "Recovered" after over 13 years - stable off psych meds almost two years. Now fine on just diet changes and higher thyroid levels (after healing - addressing gut issues/Candidal overgrowth while using EMPowerPlus and other supplements). She added a little EMpowerPlus back on as a multivitamin simply because she feels better on it - gets sick less often.
Younger dd: formerly(?) Childhood-onset schizoaffective, TS, OCD, anxiety, PTSD, migraines. After over 15 years, is now "recovered" for almost 5 years after treating endocrine issues, food sensitivities, gut issues, sleep issues, nutritional/mitochondrial needs.
