It's been a week...and a new pdoc

It's been a FULL week (and a day) since starting EMP.  SO FAR SO GOOD!!  In fact, I can't remember the last time my dd has been so happy...or just "normal".

Maybe it is the placebo affect, but honestly, she's been doing well for about three weeks now.  Just seems a lot happy and enjoying life the past week.  I've seen her doing things she hasn't done forever.  (just playing outside with her siblings!!!!)  It's wonderful to see.

Really I have no clue if it could be helping her so far (we are also eating a LOT better.  Cutting out as much "crap" as possible.  Making a trip to the store later this week to improve on that).  We haven't reduced any meds yet.  Well...actually we did get rid of the trazadone.  She was on 150mg. each night and now on NONE!!!

TH wants to take it slow and just wants to stay at four EMP a day for a month without making any changes and then at the end of Feb. we will start to decrease the rest of her meds.  (Zoloft and Risperdal).  I'm good with that.  I don't want to rush anything.  DH found a good protein shake (gluten free) today at GNC so will keep pushing those.

Also, went to a new pdoc today.  Her old one kept increasing and increasing meds that were NOT working and were making her even more depressed and suicidal.  My husband told her about the vitamins (I couldn't go today) and she said she thought it was a good idea!  She also ordered several tests that she coudln't believe had NOT been done yet!!  (One is to check her hormones...like I said previously, she is almost 17 and has had two periods).  Also want to do a seizure check as some of her tests show that she may be having small ones and a sleep test.

I'll take every good day we can get!!!!!  :)

I can hear that happy dance right now.   If your happy and you know it, clap your hands.   Isn't it great.

I wish there was a means to reach every pdoc in the country, every mentally ill person in the country, and their families with stories like yours, and like everybody who participates on the CAM forum.

Congrads and keep it up,

Brian

I am so happy that you found a supportive and from what you wrote qualified pdoc to work with.  Also I will tell you what our pdoc told us early on:  The fact that you are seeing this initial change with your daughter after starting the EMP is a good sign that she is a responder to the vitamins.  Things will get worse before they get completely better, but her prognosis is excellent give this early signal that her body seems to respond well to them.

Good work advocating for your daughter Mama.  And we are hear when things get worse again.  But for now enjoy seeing the glimmer of what your child will be once this whole transition process is over.

So glad the new doc is open to the vitamins.  Will she call TH to get more educated on them so she knows what needs to be done?  Is she running a Vitamin D and ferrontin level?  I would ask for those.  She may also be open to the IgG testing, etc.  I am glad things are going well.  I hope you got her into a neuro.  Call me sometime!

Also, went to a new pdoc today.  Her old one kept increasing and increasing meds that were NOT working and were making her even more depressed and suicidal.

Yep. I think that happens when the pdoc becomes desperate for something to work and so ignores common-sense, trying to FORCE something to work when it clearly does not. That is what happened with the last antipsychotic the pdoc tried on my older daughter, increasing it instead of what he should have done, and just given up. That's how she ended up with tardive dyskinesia.

My husband told her about the vitamins (I couldn't go today) and she said she thought it was a good idea!

YAY!!!!   My younger daughter's ped. thought it was a good idea. Her pdoc felt it was "nothing" so he didn't care either way and totally ignored it.

She also ordered several tests that she coudln't believe had NOT been done yet!!  (One is to check her hormones...like I said previously, she is almost 17 and has had two periods).  Also want to do a seizure check as some of her tests show that she may be having small ones and a sleep test.

YES!  My younger daughter's new GP we got when she was 16 could not believe some tests had not been done. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND why there is not at least documented guidelines of some minimal amount of medical testing and illness rule-outs that psychiatrists should be held accountable to do prior to diagnosing and treating any illness as "mental."  Some things on that list that should be MANDATORY should include a sleep study, comprehensive hormone profile (that's about 12 tests), vitamin, mineral and metal levels, gluten and dairy sensitivity, rule-out Lyme disease, Wilson's disease, Turner's, etc. seizures, brain, pituitary or adrenal tumors or lesions, systemic yeast (insurance even covers this blood test!), low cholesteral, EFA deficiency, etc.   After all, these "mental" diagnoses are only supposed to be made if there is nothing medical to account for the symptoms. The psychiatrist is usually the first person the kid gets referred to, then the psychiatrists doesn't run the medical tests or rule anything out!

I included a lot of that in the appendix of my book, but I am wondering... WHY IS THIS NOT STANDARD PROCEDURE???????

Older dd: formerly(?) teen-onset bipolar (morphed into ultradian cycling): "Recovered" after over 13 years - stable off psych meds almost two years. Now fine on just diet changes and higher thyroid levels (after healing - addressing gut issues/Candidal overgrowth while using EMPowerPlus and other supplements). She added a little EMpowerPlus back on as a multivitamin simply because she feels better on it - gets sick less often.
Younger dd: formerly(?) Childhood-onset schizoaffective, TS, OCD, anxiety, PTSD, migraines. After over 15 years, is now "recovered" for almost 5 years after treating endocrine issues, food sensitivities, gut issues, sleep issues, nutritional/mitochondrial needs.

I completely agree that these tests should be standard practice.  This is something that I think we all agree on.  On my military group I always tell people to get a full thyroid panel, and at least a vitamin D and ferrontin at the bare minimum, even if they are sticking with conventional ways.
