Iron for males, and tryptophan=irritable????

Ok pdoc said that we need to be careful with iron bc man do not need as much so it is easier to overdose.  She suggested a product called liquid Iron Floradex, but it has wheat germ and other herbs that I would prefer not to mess with, and Brandon is allergic to gluten, so obviously that is not a good idea.  I told her the ingredients say it has wheat germ, so what then, she misunderstood me so now I am waiting for another response.  I have just been giving him my iron that I get at the MTF here on post.  I figure it would be fine, but maybe not?  Also apparently the MTF carries Vitamin D so maybe I can get it filled on post?  Any concerns with manufactors?

I think tryptophan makes Brandon irritable.  He has been horribly irritable, but compliant the past two days, so I am holding it to see if it makes a difference.  Could that really be the cause?

tryptophan is a precursor to 5HTP which raises serotoninlevels (acts like an antidepressant) 5HTP can activate some people who are closer to a manic state - not sure if tryptophan would do same thing but possible- Charlene

Actually, iron is indicated for some males.  My ds15 has had chronic low ferritin levels for  years leading to PLMS (restless legs) which interfered with sleep.  We give him 1 SloFe 3 days a week to maintain his ferritin levels in the normal range.

I was thinking a dose a couple times a weel would be ok, but we need to see if his gut heals now that he is GFCFSF, which apparently it does and will and absorption of things will get better.  Brandon has been really depressed and I am wondering if the GFCFSF has caused him to be able to absorb his EMP better and that is why.  We are lowering to 12 per day and increasing aminos to see if that helps bring him out of it.  Unfortunately Brandon has a cold, the same one that I just got over and got from dh.  AGH!
