Flipswitch podcast (audio show) AND blog is back! We want to hear from you.

Hello Everyone--Loyal Flipswitch Listeners and Newcomers Alike!

The Balanced Mind Foundation's teen/young adult podcast and blog are baaaaack! I am your new host; my name is Jessica Gimeno (click here to read my The Balanced Mind Foundation bio).  I want to hear how you feel on a myriad of topics ranging from how mood disorders (depression, bipolar, anxiety, etc) are portrayed in pop culture to how these illnesses affect your relationships and school work.

With a fresh new approach, Flipswitch will take advantage of social media using:

  1. this Website
  2. Twitter
  3. Facebook

You can answer poll questions on this page by clicking on “add new comment” and answering with a simple “Yes” or a “No.”  But if you’re really passionate about a topic and might like to hear yourself quoted in an upcoming podcast, you can leave a longer comment (with your name if you like).  If there’s a subject that really gets to you and you want to be in a podcast, email me at jgimeno@thebalancedmind.org.  For instance, if I were going to do a podcast on the stigma associated with bipolar and you have an experience that shows this, you can anonymously and briefly describe it in the relevant podcast.

Current Poll Question: Is it a good thing when wild celebrities like Charlie Sheen or Britney Spears are labeled bipolar?

-Yes, because it prompts people to look up “bipolar” on the Internet.

-No, because it stereotypes bipolar people as promiscuous drug addicts.

-Not Sure.

Poll questions are also tweeted and posted on Facebook.  Poll closes Tuesday night, April 19, 2011.

No, It totally sterotypes... People say, Did you hear Charlie Sheen Flipped his lid? I say shame on the media for 1) exploiting the mental illness of a human being and 2) Charlie Sheen should be made to donate 3/4 of his proceeds to aid in ending the Stigma of BiPolar Disorder and Mental Illness alike! It breaks my heart that my kids have to see this crap on TV and everywhere else and have to think of themsleves in that category!! As far as Britney Spears goes at least she got the help that she needed and made somewhat of an example of herself... It could have been a little more tasteful, but atleast she was not all over the TV yelling that she is Bi-Winning!
